Chapter 4 of Star Trek Hellstorm (more to come soon)
Chapter 4 Confrontation
USS Hellstorm warped near the Romulan Neutral Zone with her sensors ablaze looking for any signs or whereabouts of the USS Pigin. Captain Kenneth starred at the view screen as the sensor readout at tactical was beeping constantly warning the crew that a slight .12 variance of tachyon emissions were detected 50 kilometers off the ventral port side. “Mr. Richoner I need those coordinates now" Kenneth barked as he turned toward the tactical officer from behind him. “I’m unable to get an exact location sir. It appears that the tachyon emissions are originating all around us with a more focused point below but I can ascertain it at the moment.” Richoner informed. Kenneth gritted his teeth and felt anger boiling up to the tilt “Mr. Peterman I want the exact position that the sensors can detect the Pigin’s ion trails and I want you to transfer them to tactical when you get it understood!” “Yes Sir!” came the helmsman reply. The console at tactical beeped again and this time Richoner spoke up. “Sir I have a more localized point of the tachyon emissions but thay still appear to be all over the place but I can confirm that the localized source is directly beneath us!” Kenneth turned to the helmsman quickly. “Mr. Peterman I need those ion trail coordinates.” Mr. Peterman looked bleak as he raced against the clock on locating the source with no luck “I’m trying sir but every time I lock on to it, it dematerializes and I loose it completely!” Kenneth gritted his teeth and looked at the commander who sat calm and complexed over the situation as if to think of scenarios on how to detect the Pigin under cloak. “Number one I need any suggestions that you may be cooking up in your mind.” Kenneth firmly asked. Commander Darron shifted in his chair then replied . “We could program to deflector array to emit a low anti-proton scan so therefore the Pigin wont detect us trying to locate them it will help us locate the Pigin under cloak a lot faster.”
“Bridge to Engineering!” Kenneth shouted over the comn. Braxon here sir,” came the gruffed up annoyed tone of the engineer on the other end. “Chief I need you to program the deflector array to emit a low level anti-proton scan and to activate it once completed. “Sir that will take at least ten minutes to get the deflector up to those specs and begin scan.” replied the annoyed engineer’s voice again. “Chief you got 5 min’s that’s all.” Kenneth barked back. “Aye sir.” Braxon out.” Kenneth turned toward the helm which Mr. Peterman was still working the console. “Any luck in finding those ion trails that we need to pinpoint our targeting systems for tactical.” He asked, “In a way I was able to locate a good portion of the ion trails that is directly below us but they keep dissipating so rapidly that I still can’t get a good fix on it.” Kenneth growled just as the tactical console beeped and Richoner reported “Sir, Engineering reports deflector ready to begin anti-proton scan.” Kenneth almost hopped for joy as he turned and hand signaled Richoner to begin. “Initializing deflector array beginning 10 second anti-proton burst at one-one hundredth power.” There was a moment of silence as the console confirmed each scanning cycle and relaying back the readouts.
“What do we have Mr. Richoner?” Kenneth asked. Richoner started to read the sensor readouts aloud when suddenly there was a huge explosion that ripped through the bridge that caught everyone by surprise. Consoles erupted in huge sparks of fire and flames as crewman were blasted onto the floor near the science stations. “REPORT!!” shouted Kenneth over the sudden blare of the red alert klaxons. Mr. Richoner picked himself up off the floor of the bridge as the deck continued to tremble of erupting explosions all over the ship. “The Pigin has disengaged cloak and has opened fire on our ventral aft section sir. Shields are down to 60% and hull breeches are reported in sections 34 through 43!!” shouted the tactical officer. “Activate emergency force fields and seal those breeches!” Commander Darron shouted. “Hull breeches sealed sir.” Richoner shouted back. Kenneth stood over the rumbling deck and kept his posture strong and tall “Activate Ablative Armor!” he growled. Mr. Richoner worked the console over the showering of sparks and explosions.
Soon ablative hull armor started to cover the Hellstorm as she warped through space with the Pigin hot on her tail firing relentlessly. “Hull armor engaged and at full power captain.” Reported Richoner now as the deck and ship started to quieting down. The deck slightly shook over the constant fire from the Pigin. “Mr. Richoner looked at the readouts on his console and looked at Kenneth with the disgust “The Pigin is still in pursuit although no further damage to report Ablative Hull Armor is holding at 98%.” Captain Kenneth turned slowly over to Commander Darron which was studying the damage report. “Number one I believe its time to see what the Hellstorm can really do.” Darron looked up from the damage report and considered his captains remark. “Indeed although I advise extreme caution. The surprise attack that the romulan’s inflicted on us has regrettably slowed our response time. Timing is of an essence.”
Capatin Kenneth nodded over the Commander’s suggestion and turned to Mr Richoner at tactical. “Mr. Richoner, load transphasic torpedoes, it’s time to give those Romulan’s a bloody nose.”
There was a moment of shock on the bridge as if Captain Kenneth’s order was a little dramatic Mr. Peterman spoke up over the rumbling silence on the bridge “Captain, if I may understand your orders correctly do you intend to destroy the Pigin sir?” Kenneth glared at helmsman and replied in a low tone. “No, I don’t intend to destroy the Pigin Mr. Peterman, but I’m sure as damned not going to keep giving them the privilege to further insult Starfleet and endanger the security of the Federation by using the Pigin as a weapon against us.” He then turned to Mr. Richoner at tactical. “Mr. Richoner I want you to fire two transphasic torpedoes 500 kilometers off their port bow if I know any better the Romulans will try to evade that an I intend to surprise them with multiple phaser bursts and target their ablative hull armor generator
” Mr. Richoner looked at his captain and smiled in agreement. “Yes sir.” He replied in a determined tone as he worked the controls on tactical then reported “Transphasic torpedoes ready sir.”
Kenneth sat in his command chair and stared at the viewscreen as he watched the Pigin still in pursuit weapons ablaze at the Hellstorm. “Fire!” Two bright transphasic torpedoes fired out toward the Pigin from the aft torpedo launcher as the Hellstorm dropped out of warp and maneuvered in a slingshot around Pigin for an attack run. Just as Kenneth suspected the Pigin veered hard to starboard to evade the incoming torpedoes just as the Hellstorm unleashed a barrage of phaser fire impacting the Pigin severely as each phaser burst was concentrated directly on Pigins hull generator.” Kenneth watch on the viewscreen as the Pigin powered down and went dark. He flew out of his seat suddenly and watched the Pigin grow completely lifeless. “Aww, That was too easy.” He exclaimed. Mr. Richoner studied the power distribution readouts onboard the Pigin and confirmed, “Captain, Pigin’s main power has completely gone offline including weapons and shields.” Kenneth starred
at the viewscreen in disbelief. “Check the readouts again see if there is any sign of trickery.” Mr. Richoner looked over and shook his head. “No captain, all readouts confirm.” The Pigin seems to sustain no life at all. Power has been rerouted to repairs of the hull armor generator I estimate that the hull armor will be fully functional again within the hour.” Mr. Peterman reported. Kenneth took a step back to his chair, stopped and turned back at the viewscreen. “Conference.” He said as he and the senior bridge staff headed to the conference room.
“What seems to be the problem!!?” barked senator Tom’alak angrily as he stormed into the command center where four other centurions and reman soliders were busy with the controls that surrounded a center command chair which housed a single auto pilot romulan that was controlling USS Pigin near the border of the neutral zone. “Patience!” came a loud hiss from the other end of the dark room. “We have encountered some problems along the way. It seems that the Federation has caught on to our little experiment and has sent one of their galaxy class starships to intercept our advancement into the neutral zone.” Senator Tom’alak turned and viewed the screen above the center control chair and saw the galaxy class ship hovering over the Pigin as it laid lifeless and growled “Captain Kenneth!”
His eyes narrowed making his eyebrows more menacing “How long till the repairs are complete?” He hissed back at the voice in the dark corner. “Don’t worry about that Senator; just be assured that the Pigin will get to its destination and our little friend here that is giving us such trouble in completing our mission will be no more once repairs are complete.” The voice replied back. Tom’alak glared around the room “You better be wise in what you say and do! I will not tolerate anymore delays! “ once repairs are complete I want that federation galaxy class destroyed ” Fail the Preator and I guarantee you will never hear the end of it!” Tom’alak then turned and headed for the exit as he shoved past two Reman guards on the way. The owner of the voice peered through the light from the dark corner and the evil face of Reman Emperor Vosk appeared in the shadows of the dim light.
Captain Kenneth strode in the conference room and sat in his chair with rest of his senior staff following right behind. Kenneth took a moment to take in the room and his crew and then stated.”Upon the recent events in which I hope you are fully aware by now is that the Romulans have figured out a way to sabotage the Pigin in attempt to bring to Romulus where they will reverse engineer her and from what reports show use the Pigin and hundreds of their ships within her specifications against the Federation.” Now we have the Pigin within our grasp but for some reason there seems to be a glitch within the ships system that caused a massive power failure although I am at odd on how this has occurred since the Hellstorm has not inflicted significant damage to cause this power drainage so I need options and facts here.
" Mr. Richoner spoke up first. “Captain when we were engaged in battle with the Pigin I noticed a slight power variance within the warp matrix it seemed to have staggered slightly when weapons were engaged then when I noticed that the Pigin was no longer firing and engaged in evasive maneuvers the power drainage was a lot greater than needing to be.” Kenneth turned to Commander Darron with an odd expression on his face. “Commander I understand that you were involved in the Pigins engineering systems during her construction back at Starbase what can you make of this puzzling discovery?” Commander Darron straightened and looked at every crewmember then replied. “In this case of the Pigins power distribution the design was to be a lot more powerful and agile than the defiant class ships. We also perfected the power output in order to maximize her potential in the field of combat. It is logical to presume that the act of sabotage has somehow inflicted some damage on the performance abilities of the Pigin and I believe we can use that to our advantage.
But there is one striking detail I forgot to mention that before Pigin left spacedock, I noticed a crewman that I did not recognize at first but dismissed it thinking that he was no other than a member of the engineering crew that were part the prep group before launch.” Kenneth looked at his commander in a quizzical way “What did this crewmember look like?” he asked. Darron just looked straight on and plainly said “Like a Vulcan.” Captain Kenneth took a deep breath and looked over the conference table. “ It appears that Starfleet command has been infiltrated by Romulan spies which means if that’s true their plan could be already on the move and we may be the only ones out here to stop them.” “Mr. Peterman, contact Starfleet command tell them that Romulan spies are among the crew disguised as Vulcan crewmembers and engineers.” “Aye sir,” came Peterman reply. . “In the meantime lets see if we can get an away team beamed over to the Pigin and find some way to bring her home under tow, Commander Darron will lead the recovery mission..dismissed.” And with that the senior bridge crew left the table and sprang into action.
Sentor Tomalak sat in his chair for the last hour reading over the initial reports of Operation Talon that involved extensive information of mission statements and post requirements that the Tal’Shiar demanded once the Pigin was secured within Romulan territory. He glanced over a section of the report where one of the highest ranking officials of the Tal’Shiar had written a very descriptive and detailed note directed to Tomalak himself of the importance in the success of this mission and how dire the consequences were if he were to fail. His mind flashed of the image of the massive galaxy class hovering over the lifeless Pigin as his officers were struggling with time to finish repairs and get the ship operational again. He knew for a fact that Captain Kenneth was aboard that galaxy ship and the very thought of it made him tense up even more. It wasn’t too long ago that during Tomalak's little feuds with Captain Picard years before that he ran into the once then Lieutenant Commander Kenneth. Kenneth was in command at the time and responded to a distress call from the Enterprise when she was surrounded by Tomalak’s warbird along with two others. Kenneth having left his captain on a nearby planet to aide the Enterprise during the conflict left Tomalaks small armada with bloody noses as two galaxy class ships evened out the odds against three warbirds. Tomalak swore to himself and to Picard that he will avenge his fallen centurions from one of the destroyed warbirds and marked Kenneth as a target to unleash his revenge upon. Of course that was many years ago and now Tomalak being a senator of the Romulan government had no way to extract his vengeance on his enemy himself. But he did have centurions and few reman officers under his command that were in control of the Talon operation and by having control of the Pigin he could use it as a way to get to Kenneth. An evil grin formed on Tomalaks face as he begin to devise a new plan to unleash an assault that will leave Kenneth's mighty galaxy class in to almost total ruin but to leave it still in one piece for that there are things far more worse than death itself.
